Here's how children statewide and in Thurston County stacked up against people older than 18 in terms of diversity:
-White only:
STATEWIDE: 75.8 percent of those under 18; 83.9 percent of those older than 18.
COUNTY: 80 percent under 18; 87.6 percent older than 18.
-Black or African-American only:
STATEWIDE: 3.9 percent of those under 18; 3 percent of those over 18.
COUNTY: 2.9 percent under 18; 2.1 percent over 18.
-American Indian and Alaska native only:
STATEWIDE: 2.1 percent of those under 18; 1.4 percent of those older than 18.
COUNTY: 1.9 percent of those under 18; 1.4 percent of those older than 18.
-Asian only:
STATEWIDE: 5.1 percent of those under 18; 5.6 percent of those older than 18.
COUNTY: 4.6 percent of those under 18; 4.3 percent of those older than 18.
-Native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander only:
STATEWIDE: 0.5 percent of those under 18; 0.4 percent of those over 18.
COUNTY: 0.6 percent of those under 18; 0.5 percent of those older than 18.
-Other race only:
STATEWIDE: 5.9 percent of those under 18; 3.2 percent of those older than 18.
COUNTY: 2.3 percent of those under 18; 1.5 percent of those older than 18.
-Two or more races:
STATEWIDE: 6.8 percent of those under 18; 2.5 percent of those older than 18.
COUNTY: 6.9 percent of those under 18; 2.6 percent of those older than 18.
-Hispanic or Latino:
STATEWIDE: 15.5 percent of those under 18; 6 percent of those older than 18.
COUNTY: 6.9 percent of those under 18; 3.7 percent of those older than 18.
