Campgrounds

- Lakeshore RV Park, (509) 682-8023.

- Lake Chelan State Park is so popular people start reserving their spots in January. Reservations: (800) 452-5687. General information: (800) 233-0321.

- 25-Mile Creek State Park: (800) 452-5687 for reservations.

Activities

- Water park: Slidewaters offers several body slides (including the Purple Haze), tube rides and a 60-person hot tub. (509) 682-5751.

- Gambling: The Colville Tribe operates Mill Bay Casino near Manson.

- Boat tours: Lake Chelan Tour Boat offers custom cruises (509-682-8287); Lake Chelan Boat Company (Lady of the Lake) offers regular trips to Stehekin, (509) 682-4584.

- Forest: 422,000-acre Chelan Ranger District (Wenatchee National Forest) has six campgrounds; call (509) 682-2576. Junior Point features great views of Glacier Peak and the lake from the old fire lookout.

- Air and water: Chelan Parasail and Watercraft Rentals at Lakeshore Marina; call (509) 687-7245. Also offers speed boat ride for 14 passengers and personal watercraft rentals. Personal Flight offers scenic tandem hang gliding or paragliding flights; call (800) 685-8238.

- Dam/museum: Rocky Reach Dam, about 30 minutes south of Chelan on U.S. Highway 97, hosts about 80,000 visitors a year. It features displays and films on electricity, salmon and dams.

- Mountain biking: Popular in the hills, especially the Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area. Expert riders start at Lakeside Park and ride to the top of Chelan Butte with its 360-degree views. The 25 Mile Creek North Fork Trail goes 6,500 feet, switches over to Devil's Backbone and returns downhill on the 10-mile Pot Peak Trail.
