Road grader mishap causes power outage

About 60 homes were without electricity for about five hours Tuesday because of an outage in the Fish Hatchery Road area in southwest Mason County.

The outage occurred at approximately 3 p.m. when an estimated 30 feet of an electrical cable was scraped by a road grader doing work on Fish Hatchery Road.

Electricity was restored by 7:11 p.m.

Black Hills students collect for UNICEF

Students from Tumwater's Black Hills High School will gather hygiene items for Iraqis affected by the recent war Saturday and Sunday at area grocery stores.

The world history students will gather washclothes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, razors, sewing supplies and feminine hygiene products.

Items will be collected from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Students will be posted at Top Foods in West Olympia, the Tumwater Albertson's, the Tumwater Safeway and Ralph's Thriftway.

On Sunday, Mega Foods in Tumwater will also be among the sites.

Donated items will be given to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund to help with humanitarian aid in Iraq.
