Tonight's top pick

- "MTV Movie Awards," 9 p.m., MTV. The awards are meaningless, but this show tends to be great fun. It has music (Pink, 50 Cent, t.A.T.u.), comedy, young hosts (Justin Timberlake, Seann William Scott) and offbeat categories.

A year ago, Kirsten Dunst predicted her "Spider-Man" scene -- with an upside-down Tobey Maguire -- would be nominated for best kiss.

It was; other kiss nominees are from "Daredevil," "Drumline," "Gangs of New York" and "Punch-Drunk Love." In addition, other categories have nominations for Dunst, Maguire and their film.

For best movie, "Spider-Man" faces "8 Mile," "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," "Barbershop" and the horror film "The Ring."

best bets

- "Persona non Grata," 7 p.m., HBO. Movie writer-director Oliver Stone ("JFK", "Any Given Sunday") made this documentary about both sides of the Israel-Palestine conflict. He speaks to Shimon Peres (former Israeli prime minister), the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and others. They talk of an unyielding fight. "The problem is ... rather psychological than logical," Peres says. "Two angry people that cannot hear each other anymore. The Middle East is full of tongues and short on ears." This was made before renewed talks of peace brokered by President Bush.

- "Friends," 8 p.m., NBC. The network's night of reruns starts with the episode in which Phoebe meets Mike, almost by accident. Meanwhile, Rachel needs a new pediatrician for Emma. Ross is sheepish about sending her to his childhood doctor.

- "Scrubs," 8:30 p.m., NBC. The young doctors are challenged to find the most interesting case study.

- "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 9 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, a death in a meatpacking plant leads to the probe of a restaurant.

- "Frasier," 9:30 p.m., NBC. This is the episode -- poignant, well-played, not terribly funny -- in which Niles has heart-bypass surgery.

- "ER," 10 p.m., NBC. This episode introduced Don Cheadle as the resident with a steep physical handicap.
