UW team turns down tournament invitation

SEATTLE -- The University of Washington men's golf team won't play in the Hooters Collegiate Matchplay Championship tournament next month in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The decision was made by Marie Tuite, senior associate for sports programs and student services at the UW.

Tuite told The Associated Press on Thursday that she declined an invitation to play in the tournament in part because of the image of Hooters. The Atlanta-based restaurant chain, with about 330 outlets worldwide, is known for its waitresses clad in tight shorts and tops.
