Youths sought for environmental study
4-H Teen Works, a career development youth group for Thurston County teenagers, is currently looking for new members for its environmental studies program. Members will learn about environmental issues in the Northwest, learn field skills such as plant identification and help design an ongoing prairie restoration project.
Members can earn WSU tuition credit and high school elective credit, as well as work with professionals in the field and possibly get paid summer internships.
Members must be at least 15 years old and willing to commit six or more hours per month to workshops, service projects, and training.

Southwest Olympia group to plant trees
The Southwest Olympia Neighborhood Association will host two tree-planting events this month. A pre-planting workshop will take place at 7 p.m. today, at 522 Decatur St. SW.
Residents can plant trees the morning of Nov. 22; Neighborwoods will help dig holes on the street. For more information or to participate, call Kara Walk at 360-943-1911.

Disco fund-raiser to benefit families
The Michael Shawn Hines Foundation will present its third annual fund-raiser, Disco '70s Old School Party, from 7 p.m. until midnight Saturday.
Proceeds will go toward holiday gift certificates, blankets, and coats for low-income families. There will be a contest for best outfit, and D.J. Carlos will provide musical entertainment.
The party will be held at Thurston County Fairgrounds Heritage Hall, 3054 Carpenter Road in Lacey. Tickets cost $15. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Michael Shawn Hines Foundation at 360-455-8410.

Honor society to help host blood drive
The Puget Sound Blood Center and the National Honor Society will host a blood drive at the Tenino High School Library Media Center, 500 W. Second St., from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Nov. 20.
The center will close from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for lunch.
An appointment sheet is available for sign-ups in the high school office.
Donors should eat well and drink plenty of water the day before the drive.
