State's top speed trap in Lacey

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SEATTLE -- Interstate 5 through Lacey is Washington's biggest speed trap, according to a Seattle Post-Intelligencer review of stops by the State Patrol.

Out of 907,142 speeding stops statewide in the two years ending in August, 6,656 were around milepost 110 on the freeway a few miles north of the Capitol, the P-I reported Tuesday.

The next nine were all in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. No. 2 was at milepost 210 on I-5 north of Everett with 6,427 stops, followed by milepost 17 on Interstate 405 in Kirkland with 6,423.

Fewer than half the stops, 48 percent, resulted in citations with fines. Troopers gave the rest of the drivers verbal or written warnings.
