They listened.
With Ashley Green scoring her first of three goals just two minutes into the match, Seattle Prep was certainly the aggressor in a 9-1 victory, eliminating the Wolves from the 3A state playoffs.
"We're much better when we're attacking," Hendricks said. "We get into trouble when we sit back and wait. Tonight we attacked."
Seattle Prep, which has outscored opponents 50-15 this season, dominated with an aggressive defense that allowed the Panthers to grab a 24-5 edge in shots-on-goal.
Black Hills couldn't match Seattle Prep's quickness.
"They're very fast," Black Hills coach Lisa Summers said.
"They have girls who can finish, which is something we don't see in this league," Summers added. "We have one player who can finish."
That's Megan Waunch, who scored 35 goals in 16 games and will likely repeat as the Pacific-9 League's MVP. But Waunch didn't get much of an opportunity against the Panthers' pressure defense.
Hendricks was fully aware of Waunch's quick-strike scoring abilities.
"We put one mark in front of her and one mark in back of her," Hendricks said. "She'd have to beat three players to score. We knew where she was on the field."
Waunch's lone score came on a corner kick late in the first half.
But Seattle Prep's best defense was a ball-control offense.
"We didn't move very well on offense," Summer said. "We did a lot of standing around."
For the second straight year, Black Hills won the league title and was eliminated in the first round of the state playoffs. The Wolves finished at 13-3-1.
"This district can't get out of the first round," Summers said. "That team has a number of Premier 1 players. We don't see this level of play until the playoffs."
Seattle Prep's Maryann Boddy scored a season-high four goals, helping her team take a 5-1 halftime lead with her two goals before the break.
"She's hot and cold," Hendricks said. "Tonight she was both."
Boddy and Green combined for three goals in the first 13 minutes of the match.
"Those first three goals we were like a deer in headlights," Summers said.
Despite the loss, Black Hills went further than expected.
"It was a great season," Summers said. "We started off wanting to finish in the top three in league. We were league champs. This team worked well together. I'm proud of them."
