- Purse: $4 million. Winners' shares: $500,000 each.

- TV: ESPN (Thursday-Friday, noon to 3 p.m.) and ABC (Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

- Format: Two-man teams represent 24 countries. First and third rounds, best ball; Second and fourth, alternate shot.

- Last year: Maruyama and Toshimitsu Izawa gave Japan its first victory since 1957, beating Americans Phil Mickelson and David Toms by two strokes in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

- Last week: Chad Campbell became the first player to make the Tour Championship his first victory, finishing with tournament-record 16-under 268 total at Champions in Houston. Charles Howell III was second, three strokes back. Vijay Singh tied for fifth to win PGA Tour money title, ending Tiger Woods' four-year reign. ... Harrington halved his match with Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal to clinch Britain-Ireland's 15-13 victory over Continental Europe in Seve Trophy in Spain.

- Notes: United States has won 23 times, the last by Woods and David Duval in 2000 in Argentina. ... The International Golf Association ran event from its inception in 1953 as Canada Cup through 1999. ... United States won the 1991 Ryder Cup on The Ocean Course. ... The 2004 tourney will be in Seville, Spain.

LPGA Tour

- Event: LPGA Tournament of Champions, Mobile, Ala., Thursday-Sunday.

- Course: Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Magnolia Grove, Crossings Course (6,253 yards, par 72).

- Purse: $750,000. Winner takes $122,000.

- TV: The Golf Channel.

- Last year: South Korea's Se Ri Pak successfully defended title, beating Sweden's Carin Koch and Scotland's Catriona Matthew by four strokes. Pak had tournament-record 20-under 268 total.

- Last week: Annika Sorenstam wrapped up sixth LPGA Tour player of year award, winning Mizuno Classic by nine shots for sixth title of year. Her 24-under 192 broke tour record for 54-hole event by three strokes.

- Notes: Sorenstam is skipping the event. She will return to tour next week for season-ending ADT Championship in West Palm Beach, Fla. ... The 32-player field includes tournament winners from 2001-03 and active Hall of Famers.

- Format: Two-man teams. Friday, alternate shot; Saturday, best ball; Sunday, scramble.

- Team pairings: Greg Norman-Steve Elkington, Rocco Mediate-Lee Janzen, Kenny Perry-Scott Hoch, Rich Beem-Mark Calcavecchia, Craig Stadler-Peter Jacobsen, Mark O'Meara-John Cook, Shaun Micheel-Chad Campbell, Matt Kuchar- Fred Funk, Tom Kite-John Huston, Jeff Sluman-Hank Kuehne, Brad Faxon-Scott McCarron, Paul Azinger-Olin Browne.

- Last year: Former Florida Southern teammates Janzen and Mediate beat Kuchar and David Gossett by a stroke.

- Notes: Norman, the tournament host, designed 36-hole Tiburon ("shark" in Spanish) facility. ... Event is in third year at Tiburon after a year in Miami and 11 at Sherwood in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
