Our young adults have found success in school, on the playing field, in the arts and in the community. Outstanding students in each of these areas are recognized throughout the year at the time of their various events and achievements.

But young people contribute their ideas, talents and energy in many ways, some of which don't come to public attention. The Olympian, along with TOGETHER!, a youth violence, substance-prevention organization, decided to honor the high achievers featured here with an Award of Excellence

We asked high schools throughout South Sound to nominate two students -- a boy and a girl -- in each of four categories: the arts, academics, athletics and community service. We invited these outstanding students, their parents, and school officials to join The Olympian and TOGETHER! at a recognition banquet.

This first of what will be an annual event continues our commitment to showcase the best of our communities' youth, providing them with deserved recognition as they take their next steps toward adulthood.
