About this project

Orginally published August 15, 2001

The Olympian sent six reporters and four photographers to spend all of Tuesday, July 31, exploring the people and places of Lacey.

That staff included:

- Liona Tannesen, who covers Lacey and courts as her beats, visited Temple Baptist Church, Mayan Family Mexican Restaurant and the Lacey Police.

- Lorrine Thompson, who covers Thurston County and health care as her beats, visited Lacey's fast-food restaurants, its parks and its retail shopping spots.

- Alma Sharpe, who covers education as her beat, visited Wonderwood Park, Saint Martin's Abbey and the Pegues' home.

- Niels S. Nokkentved, who covers the outdoors as his beat, visited the Park & Ride lot and the Woods' llama farm.

- Scott Wyland, who covers business and real estate as his beats, visited the Shipwreck Inn and Illuminet.

- Sarah Jackson, who writes features for South Sound Living and the Home section, visited Panorama City, Lacey's historic district and the Christersons' home.

The photographs were taken by Photo Editor Mike Salsbury, and his staff: Tony Overman, Steve Bloom and Kent Treptow.

News Editor Chris Thomas designed and edited the section. Assistant Managing Editor Dusti Demarest planned and edited the content.
