Places to go if you want to slide

-Hyak Sno-Park: Unsupervised area near Snoqualmie Summit East ski area. Sno-park permit required. Open daily.

-Paradise: Mount Rainier National Park operates two groomed tubing runs, supervised on weekends. Only plastic saucers and inner tubes allowed. Call (360) 569-2211. Park entrance fee is $10 per car.

-Hurricane Ridge: This spot on the Olympic Peninsula offers Sunrise Family Snowplay Area one mile north of the visitor center and Tiny Tots Snowplay Area for young children only, near the visitor center. Supervised on weekends, holidays. Call (360) 452-0329. Park entrance fee $10 per car.

-Stevens Pass ski area: Tube City, with several groomed runs reached by special rope tows. Open daily, 1-9 p.m. Tickets are $8 for two hours, tubes included.

-Summit Central ski area: Summit Tubing Center, near Summit Central. Several groomed runs are reached by special rope tows. Lodge with food and beverages. Tickets $10 for ages 12 and older, $8 for those under 12. Fee includes tubes.

-Squilchuck State Park: Several tube runs reached by special rope tow. Tickets cost $8 and fee includes tubes.

Snowshoe walks

-Snoqualmie Pass: Ninety-minute guided trips in the Commonwealth Basin area, led by a U.S. Forest Service volunteer, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Snowshoes provided, but $5 donation requested. Check in at Snoqualmie Pass visitor center, in front of Summit West ski area, a half-hour before the trip. Reservations required. Call (425) 434-6111 Thursdays through Sundays.

-Hurricane Ridge: One-mile walks on Hurricane Ridge, led by park naturalist Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as Martin Luther King Day and Presidents Day, all at 2 p.m., weather permitting. Snowshoes provided. A $2 donation is suggested (in addition to park entrance fee of $10 per car). Register at Hurricane Ridge visitor center one hour before walk. Groups must make reservations. -Paradise: Snowshoe walks in the Paradise area at Mount Rainier are led by a park naturalist Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., weather permitting. Sign up at Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at Paradise, beginning one hour before walk. Snowshoes provided. Organized groups must reserve dates. Call (360) 569-2211, Ext. 3314.
