Building damage

Wednesday's earthquake took its toll on a number of buildings around South Sound. Many have been closed until structural engineers can assess their stability.

Olympia closes 27 buildings

The City of Olympia has evacuated 13 buildings, closing them to everyone pending structural evaluations. They have been "red-tagged."

The city also has limited access to the following buildings, "yellow-tagging" them for a structural assessment. They can only be entered to secure offices and obtain medicine.

The following Capitol Campus and nearby buildings have been closed to the public until further notice while the Department of General Administration determines how safe and suitable they are for occupation:

Deschutes Parkway

Emergency shelter

An emergency shelter for people evacuated or displaced by the earthquake has been opened at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1515 Harrison. For information about the shelter, call the local Red Cross chapter at 352-8575.
