OLYMPIA

Pritchard Building reopens Monday

The Washington State library Joel M. Pritchard Building on the Capitol Campus will resume full operations at 10 a.m. Monday.

Staff members have been working full-bore to put books back on shelves after last week's quake, said Susan Reams, public information officer.

The Pritchard library was built in 1959 and sustained no apparent structural damage in the Feb. 28 quake, although many of the bookshelves now need repair.

Volunteer Center offers services

The Volunteer Center helps citizens with disaster assistance and recovery. The center is an active member of Thurston County's Disaster Assistance Council and has been helping private homeowners with things such earthquake damage assessment, home repair and other needs.

Foundation offers grants for nonprofits

The Community Foundation announces the availability of grant funding for nonprofit organizations in Thurston or Mason counties that sustained damage to structures or equipment in last week's earthquake. The deadline to apply is March 14.

FAA to help fix Boeing Field

The Federal Aviation Administration on Friday approved $3.5 million in federal funds to repair damage at Boeing Field.

During the Nisqually Earthquake, Boeing Field sustained major damage to one-third of its runway, which also required limiting the weight of aircraft using it. As a result, international cargo operations have been severely limited.

The airport has an average of 26,000 cargo planes using the field annually.

FEMA asks for reports in 60 days

Damage to homes and businesses must be reported to the Federal Emergency Management Agency within 60 days of the presidential declaration of the area as a disaster in order to be eligible for federal funds.

To report damage, call FEMA at (800) 462-9029. Those with hearing or speech impairments can call TTY (800) 462-7585.

Calls can be made between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.

Damage also should be reported to local government agencies at one of the following numbers:

-Olympia: 753-8314

-Lacey: 491-5642

-Tumwater: 754-4170

-Unincorporated Thurston County: 754-3360.
