Bomb threats divert SAS flight
SEATTLE -- Bomb threats found Tuesday in a Seattle fast-food restaurant and an airport restroom prompted diversion to Greenland of a Seattle-bound SAS flight from Copenhagen.

Officials break up test-taking ring
NEWARK, N.J. -- Federal prosecutors smashed a nationwide ring that used stand-ins to fraudulently take English-language proficiency exams for 130 foreign students, enabling them to stay in the United States legally.

Dead orca had sky-high PCB levels
SEATTLE -- An orca found dead on an Olympic Peninsula beach in January was so full of contaminants -- polychlorinated biphenyls -- that the levels were off the charts.

Bill calls for outside fire investigators
YAKIMA -- Sen. Maria Cantwell on Tuesday introduced a bill that would require Agriculture and Interior inspectors general to investigate firefighter fatalities in the Forest Service and the National Park Service.

PR campaign takes aim at eco-terrorists
PORTLAND -- Saying the public isn't angry enough about eco-terrorism, a group is preparing to start a major public relations campaign to let people know about the victims in the supposedly victimless crime.

State workers can take leave to donate organs
SEATTLE -- State workers who donate blood or organs for others can now do so on state time. Gov. Gary Locke signed an executive order Tuesday allowing paid leave for such "life-giving procedures."

Grunge rocker Layne Staley died of overdose
SEATTLE -- Layne Staley, lead singer of the seminal grunge rock band Alice in Chains, died of a heroin and cocaine overdose, an autopsy has established.
