State closes campground

The Pleasant Valley Campground at Alder Lake is closed.

Complaints from neighbors, vandalism, groups of often disruptive parties, the loss of the volunteer campground hosts and other factors led the state Department of Natural Resources to close the campground for the foreseeable future.

Doug Sutherland, commissioner of public lands, said DNR was unable to manage the site to protect the safety of campers and the health of the environment.

"We regret that we must close the campground," Sutherland said.
