LONG BEACH -- Mild weather and abundant razor clams greeted diggers on the recent opening of the fall-winter clam season on Washington's ocean beaches.
"It was by far the best clam digging evening in years," said Roger Holeman of Ilwaco.
"I dug my limit in 10 minutes," said Sandy Alves of Long Beach.
Official clam digging dates continue into next year, but depend on demoic acid levels in the clams.
For information on razor clams and where digging will be allowed, visit the
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Web site at www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/shelfish/razorclm/razorclm.htm
Upcoming clam digging dates on four ocean beaches -- Twin Harbors, Long, Mocrocks and Copalis -- are Nov. 13, 15, 16 and 17; Dec. 13, 14, 15, 30, and 31; and Jan. 1 at the afternoon low tide.
In addition, Kalaloch Beach will be open to digging Nov. 17 and Dec. 15.
