THURSTON COUNTY -- Capital City Bass Club member Rudy Smith landed a 9-pound, 8-ounce largemouth bass recently at Long Lake.

Smith spotted the fish, but was unable to get it to take a hook. Finally, he was able to get a reaction strike using a white grub, Texas rigged.

"This was the largest bass I have ever caught," Smith said.

"Catching a big bass in Washington doesn't come very often but when it does it sure is a rewarding experience that stays with you for a lifetime."
