TROUT LAKE -- Trails closed by wildfire in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest are expected to remain closed at least over the weekend.

The Salt Creek fire 12 miles northwest of Trout Lake in southcentral Washington closed a number of trails this week, including South Climb Trail No. 183, the main climbing route access to the southwest side of Mount Adams.

Round-the-Mountain Trail 9 is closed between Stagman Ridge Trail 12 and South Climb Trail 183. The trails leading to this system are also closed.

Other climbing routes, however, are accessible on the mountain's northwest flank.

The fire had grown to 472 acres by Thursday afternoon. Firefighters had it about 30 percent contained.

Fighting the fire are 15 crews, seven of them Hot Shot crews, and six helicopters, for a total of about 450 people.

Officials expect the weather to turn cooler and wetter over the weekend, helping the fire fighting effort.

The fire was started by lightning Saturday evening.
