By the numbers

Since the series began, 35 days have passed. In that time:

- 41,300 Americans have died as a result of smoking.

- 770 Washington residents have died as a result of smoking.

- 28 Thurston County residents have died as a result of smoking.

- 168,000 adolescents in the country have smoked their first cigarette.

- 105,000 American teen-agers became regular smokers.

- 2,275 Washington youths became regular smokers.

- 95,865 asthma attacks were triggered by secondhand smoke.

- 41.2 billion cigarettes were smoked in the country.

These numbers are based on annual estimates from the American Lung Association, Washington State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control.
