Bridge project begins Wednesday
Workers building a new Fourth Avenue bridge will begin replacing water and sanitary sewer lines along Fourth Avenue, west of Olympic Way, on Wednesday.
Construction workers also will remove temporary traffic-calming devices along Fourth Avenue.
The work will take about two weeks, and city officials say temporary lane closures will be necessary in some areas. Flaggers will direct traffic.
The traffic-calming devices are being removed to prepare for the detour route, which will be needed in January. The nine-month detour will limit Olympic Way to two lanes and send all Fifth Avenue bridge traffic to Fourth Avenue and Perry Street.
