BRIDGE UPDATE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can the city keep the temporary bridge as a permanent bridge for cyclists and pedestrians?

No. The temporary bridge is not designed for long-term use. The materials used to build the bridge aren't sufficient to last for a long period of time in saltwater. Also, the bridge is only permitted as a temporary facility, due to its close proximity to the Capitol Lake dam and the passage of fish through the inlet.

The new Fourth Avenue bridge will include facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists. There will be bike lanes in both directions, and wider sidewalks.

THIS WEEK

Demolition and work on the trestle will resume after the holidays.
