BRIDGE UPDATE
Originally published Monday, February 4, 2002
On Tuesday, the city will start redirecting traffic through the construction area of the Fourth Avenue bridge project. If it is raining, the detour route will start on the next dry day because the roads need to be dry in order to re-stripe them.
Traffic traveling along 5th Avenue will be directed onto Fourth Avenue West ("Hospital Hill") and then Perry Street to access Harrison Avenue. Vehicles coming from downtown onto the Fifth Avenue bridge will not be able to go up the hill on Olympic Way to Harrison.
The city will re-stripe Harrison and add a center turn lane to allow for one lane of traffic in each direction when the detour begins.
The detour will last nine to 12 months once it begins while the contractor rebuilds the road and completes utility work on Olympic Way.
