Learn landscape design from Lacey Parks

Lacey Parks and Rec offers "Landscape Design for Homeowners" from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Ave. S.E., Lacey.

Learn the basic elements of designing a landscape, including how to select a garden style, base plan and final plan as well as how to assess your site and your needs.

Registration -- along with a $15 fee -- is required. Call 360-491-0857 to register or for more information.

Volunteer for WSU's textile, quilting group

If you are wild about quilting and have a love of sewing and working with youths, you are invited to a volunteer with the Master Textile-Master Quilter program with the Washington State University Cooperative Extension of Thurston County.

Participants should have some knowledge of quilting and enjoy working with youths.

Participants will be asked to pay $30 and return 60 hours of volunteer service in exchange for 40 hours of training.

Register by March 8 by calling Sharon Martin at 360-786-5445, Ext. 7900.

Arborist will teach pruning workshop

The Native Plant Salvage Project of WSU Cooperative Extension offers a free workshop, "Pruning Native and Waterwise Plants for Health and Beauty," from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 3.

Stacy Borden, a certified arborist and Master Gardener, will lead the workshop, featuring classroom instruction followed by a field trip to local demonstration gardens where participants will practice their pruning techniques.

Because of the hands-on nature of the workshop, enrollment is limited and advance registration is required. Call 360-704-7785 for more details and registration.
