Lawn, garden show continues today

Usher in the spring at Chehalis and Centralia at the 37th annual Lawn and Garden Show continuing today and Sunday at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds.

Enjoy free lectures, horticulture displays, plant sales, the latest in lawn and garden equipment and hands-on activities for children.

Today at 11:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m., Rose Marie Nichols McGee, author and owner of Nichols Garden Nursery, will offer a class on using lesser-known vegetables and herbs.

Sunday at noon, Peter Punzi, the "Horticulture Guy," will answer questions and offer tips on Gardening 101.

Gardening celebrity Ciscoe Morris -- just back from the Philippines -- will share his new favorite plants, offer pruning advice and answer questions at 1 p.m. and again at 3 p.m.

Free 'Septic Sense' workshops available

Find out how to protect the water and save thousands of dollars through proper septic system care.

Four workshops -- including equipment viewing sessions -- run from 7 to 9 p.m.

Workshops will be in Yelm on Wednesday; at the South Bay Grange on April 24; in Olympia on May 6; and in Hawks Prairie on May 14.

Learn to 'Naturescape' with native plants

The Native Plant Salvage Project of WSU Cooperative Extension, Stream Team and the Thurston Conservation District are sponsoring a free field class, "Naturescaping for Wildlife & Salmon," from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 6.
