TEMPE, Ariz. -- Charles Gipson, Carlos Guillen and Bret Boone each homered in the sixth inning to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 10-6 victory over the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday.
The Angels had 18 hits, including three each by Tim Salmon and Adam Kennedy. Right-hander Lou Pote's struggles continued. He gave up the three homers, and has allowed six in 11 innings this spring.
Anaheim's opening day starter Jarrod Washburn allowed seven hits and four runs -- two earned -- in four innings in his final spring appearance.
Washburn said he wasn't concerned with his sub-par outing Tuesday.
Despite lasting just four innings, Washburn threw 82 pitches. Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki fouled off nine in a 15-pitch at-bat in the first. Suzuki eventually walked on a 3-2 pitch that was right under his chin.
"I asked him where he wanted it," Washburn quipped, denying that he was throwing at Suzuki out of frustration. "That one just got away from me."
Minor league invitee Rett Johnson, in his first spring appearance, started for the Mariners. He gave up seven hits and three earned runs in three innings.
