M's release Arias
Originally published Friday, April 5, 2002
The Mariners on Thursday released Alex Arias, the veteran infielder who was designated for assignment after the team decided to keep rookie Luis Ugueto.
The Mariners had only two options, to trade Arias or release him.
He was squeezed out when the team opted to keep Ugueto, a Rule V draft selection who the Mariners must keep all season or offer back to the Florida Marlins.
