LONDON -- Elizabeth Hurley gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday, following a high-profile pregnancy in which her ex-boyfriend questioned whether he was the child's father.

"Elizabeth Hurley is delighted to announce the birth of her son, Damian Charles," a spokeswoman for the model-actress said in a statement.

"Both mother and baby are happy and healthy."

Hurley, 36, has said the boy's father was her former boyfriend, American film producer Stephen Bing. In December, Bing sued the British tabloid The Mirror, alleging he faced death threats when the paper urged readers to call him after he said he was unsure whether he'd impregnated Hurley.

The actress, who has appeared in movies including "Bedazzled" and "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," ended her 13-year relationship with actor Hugh Grant more than a year ago.

For several years she was the international face of Estee Lauder cosmetics.

LOS ANGELES -- David Caruso's upcoming turn on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" could turn into a series for the former "NYPD Blue" star.

Caruso is appearing in the May 9 episode of "CSI" as a Miami forensics investigator. The results will determine whether CBS develops a drama with him for next season, the network said.

In the "CSI" episode, a serial killing case brings the show's Las Vegas forensics team to Miami. They hook up with their local counterparts played by Caruso and Emily Procter (Ainsley Hayes on "The West Wing").

"CSI," which stars William Petersen and Marg Helgenberger, has turned into a ratings hit for CBS.

Caruso made a splash when ABC's "NYPD Blue" premiered in 1993 but he left after a single season to pursue a movie career. He returned to TV in 1997 in CBS' low-rated, short-lived drama "Michael Hayes."

SEATTLE -- Bill and Melinda Gates are expecting their third child in October, a family spokesman said.

The Microsoft Corp. chairman and his wife "are thrilled to welcome this new addition to their family," spokesman Trevor Neilson said.

Their first child, Jennifer, is 5, and their second, Rory, is almost 3.

Gates and the former Melinda French were married in 1994 on the Hawaiian island of Lanai.

NEWARK, N.J. -- Megadeth, the band whose 19-year career helped define the heavy metal genre, is breaking up because of serious injuries to founder Dave Mustaine's left arm and hand that have left him unable to play the guitar.

Bassist David Ellefson, guitarist Al Pitrelli and drummer Jimmy DeGrasso have decided not to continue without Mustaine, who formed Megadeth in 1983 after he was fired from Metallica.

Mustaine, 40, hurt his arm and hand in early January, suffering severe nerve damage. In a statement released Wednesday, Mustaine did not specify how the injury occurred, and his publicist, Bret Adams, said he did not know.

The statement said Mustaine's injury was diagnosed as a compressed radial nerve.

LOS ANGELES -- Ray Charles is coming to a casino near you.

Charles, who is blind, is lending his name to the first series of slot machines for the visually impaired. The Bally Gaming Systems machines, which include audio cues and a Braille button deck, are being shipped this month.

"This makes so much sense because you can do whatever you want by yourself," the 71-year-old singer said in a statement Wednesday.

The slot machine models include an "America the Beautiful"-themed machine featuring Charles and "The Paylettes." His recording of "America the Beautiful" is 30 years old.
