Locke program gives nod to project

Gov. Gary Locke's Governing for Success program has recognized a project initiated by local staff members in the Aging and Adult Services Administration of the Department of Social and Health Services.

The team consolidated multiple federally mandated forms sent to the agency's clients, which will reduce postage costs and staff time. Additionally, clients are less likely to be puzzled by repeated mailings.

The team members were Bill Allman, Barbara Blaylock, Tim Dahlin, Kevin Krueger, Patricia Morrison, Cheryl Thomas and Chris Toombs.

Employee honored for exposing fraud

Chad Standifer was named March employee of the month at the Department of Financial Institutions.

As special assistant attorney general in the Securities Division, Standifer led the effort to expose 11 fraudulent investment schemes totaling $10 million and encompassing hundreds of investors in Washington state.

As a result of Standifer's work, all registered individuals who perpetrated the frauds have had their licenses revoked, the entities employing them have been dissolved or reorganized, and the department has ordered fines and restitution totaling more than $2.5 million.

"Often working through the night, Chad has relentlessly labored to become intimately familiar with the fact and theory of the cases," wrote Mark Thomson, the department's acting director.

Standifer is solely responsible for 52 percent of all the enforcement orders issued by the Securities Division so far in 2002.
