OLYMPIA

Post office open late for tax returns

The downtown post office at 900 Jefferson St. S.E. will be open until midnight tonight for those who need to file tax returns.

The counter line will stay open, and Postal Service employees pick up mail in the parking lot. All tax forms received by midnight will get an April 15 postmark.

At post offices in Lacey, Tumwater and on Olympia's west side, employees will collect mail in the outside boxes at midnight and give them the April 15 postmark.

SOUTH SOUND

Statewide quake drill scheduled

A statewide earthquake drill is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday. The "drop, cover and hold" drill is designed to improve disaster preparedness.

Families, schools and businesses are asked to participate. For more information about earthquake safety, contact the Thurston County Emergency Management Office at 360-754-3360.
