BASEBALL

- Tumwater Baseball League registration is open. The league is open to Tumwater School District children in grades K-6. Fees range from $35 to $65 and include uniforms. Registration is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Tumwater City Hall. Sessions also are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 26 and Feb. 2, both Saturdays, at City Hall. - Baseball fundamentals camps are Jan. 12, 19, 26 and Feb. 9, 16 and 23 at Olympia High School. Sessions will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Cost is $15 per session or $75 for all six. For more information, call Eric at 753-8920.

- Black Hills Youth Baseball is registering players for the upcoming Cal Ripken spring season. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 12 at Tumwater Sports; from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 21 at Saint Martin's College and again Jan. 26 at MVP. - Capital Little League spring 2002 registration for youths 6-14 years old will take place noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 12-13 at the Ramada Inn in downtown Olympia, and noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 19-20 at Big 5 Sporting Goods in West Olympia. For more information, call Tom at 412-1891.

- Lacey Babe Ruth, for players ages 13 to 15, has scheduled registration for the 2002 baseball season. Registration sessions, in the North Thurston High School Commons, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 2 and 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 11. - Applications for managers and coaches are being accepted by Black Hills Youth Baseball, a chartered Babe Ruth league for players ages 7-9 and 10-12. Background checks will be performed on applicants. For more information, call 923-5366.

- Managers are needed for Lacey Babe Ruth teams for the 2002 season. Teams are for 13-year-old players and for youngsters 14-15. The season starts in March and ends in mid-June. For more information, call Doug at 456-4036.

BASKETBALL

- Registration is open for the 14th annual Tumwater Youth Basketball Tournaments. The tournaments, March 8-10 and 15-17, are at Tumwater and Black Hills high schools and are for boys and girls in fifth through eighth grades. Signup is $95 per team per tournament. BOWLING

BOXING

- Lessons for beginners are offered at Thorvald's Boxing Club. Students learn basic stance, jab, cross, hook and other skills during five sessions. Cost is $50. For information, call Lacey Parks and Recreation at 491-0857.

FASTPITCH

- Three youth clinics will be offered by South Puget Sound Community College. A batting and bunting clinic for girls ages 11-14 will be Feb. 9. A batting clinic for ages 8-10 will be Feb. 23 and a baserunning and sliding session for players 10-14 will be March 9. Hours for all three sessions will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $25. - A clinic for girls ages 12-18 will be offered Feb. 24 at Black Hills High School in Tumwater. Pacific Lutheran University coaches and players will work with players on pitching, hitting, fielding, baserunning and other skills. GOLF

- A development program is offered Saturdays at Tumwater Valley Municipal Golf Course for youngsters 6-14. The monthly cost is $25. For information, call Tumwater Valley pro shop at 943-9500.

- Briggs YMCA youth golf team, for players of all skill levels, is open to boys and girls ages 8-18. The $38 monthly fee includes range balls and instruction. For information, call Jennifer at 753-6576.

- First Tee of Olympia offers instruction is all aspects of golf. The program is available all year for junior golfers and during the winter for adults. For more information, call Don at 493-1000.

GYMNASTICS

- Monthly gymnastics classes are available Thursday and Fridays at The Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. N.W. A session for parents and children (18 months to 3 years old) meets at 10:10 a.m. Fridays. A session for youngsters ages 3-4 meets at 5:15 p.m. Thursdays or 9:10 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. Fridays. A class for kids 5-8 meets at 6:15 p.m. Thursdays. Classes focus on basic gymnastics skills. MARTIAL ARTS

ROWING

- Olympia Area Rowing is open to beginning and experienced rowers from youngsters to adults. For more information, call 943-7759.

RUNNING

- Kids Capitol City Marathon Challenge training is starting. The fee is $15 to help prepare youngsters for the May event. For more information, call 705-2580.

SKATING

- Ice skating lessons offered at Sprinker Recreation Center, Spanaway. Eight-week sessions cost $55 and include skate rental and lessons. Call 253-798-4000.

SOCCER

- Southwest Washington Soccer Association's annual meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Thurston County Courthouse, Building 1. The agenda will include election of officers and discussion of the 2002 season. Anyone interested in playing adult soccer can attend. - Referees needed to officiate Thurston County Youth Soccer Association matches. Games are week nights in Tumwater, Olympia and Yelm. For information, call Greg Bargmann at 357-4251.

- South Sound Select Futbol Club, a competitive program, is sponsoring an ongoing soccer development program for players born between July 1994 and January 1997. The goal is to train players in fundamentals. The program is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, Feb. 4-28, at Jefferson Middle School gym. For more information, call 867-4877.

SOFTBALL

- Thurston County Softball Association's annual meeting is March 12. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Lacey Community Center. The association is for men's, women's and mixed play. For more information, check the Web at tcsawa.com or call 459-8735.

- Players are needed to form South Sound senior teams. Men ages 49 and over are needed to form at least two teams. Players must be willing to dedicate time, participate in league play and take part in weekend tournaments. - Briggs Community YMCA has classes for all swimmers. In addition, Red Cross certification in professional rescue, first aid and CPR available. Call 753-6576.

TRACK AND FIELD
