Capitol plans film festival

ROSS RAIHALA THE OLYMPIAN

OLYMPIA -- The Olympia Environmental Film Festival returns for a second go-round Friday and Saturday at the Capitol Theater.

Taylor Pittman, an information and education specialist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, founded the festival after attending the 2000 Hazel Wolf Environmental Film Festival at Sleeping Lady in Leavenworth, and realizing such an event was ideal for Olympia.

- Noon Saturday: the free "Kids and Worms" event featuring "Recycling with Worms" (12 minutes), with a hands-on demonstration presented by "Dr. Rot"; "The Sandbox" (13 minutes); and "Old John: A Voice for the Living Earth" (57 minutes).

- 3 p.m. Saturday: "Fair Food and Trade" featuring "Terminator Tomatoes" (5 minutes), introduced by the YMCA Earth Service Corps; "Not for Sale/No Se Vende" (30 minutes), introduced by filmmakers Melissa Young and Mark Dworkin; and "Life and Debt" (90 minutes), presented by the YMCA Earth Corps.
