Terror at a glance

Developments related to the Sept. 11 attacks:

- Afghan troops and tanks rushed to the battle zone in eastern Afghanistan to bolster U.S.-led coalition forces against determined pockets of al-Qaida militants fulfilling their vow to fight to the death.

- The U.S. military awarded six Purple Heart medals to soldiers who were wounded in the ongoing offensive.

- Green Berets and other Army Special Force soldiers joined more than 600 people at a Fort Bragg, N.C., memorial service for Chief Warrant Officer Stanley L. Harriman, 34, who died March 3 in the offensive in eastern Afghanistan.

- Health officials said an epidemic has killed 40 people in two weeks in western Afghanistan, and they believe the illness could be either scurvy or a form of hemorrhagic fever.

- Families of firefighters who died in the World Trade Center collapse will receive an additional $95,000 each from a firefighter union fund, a spokesman said.
