Easter Activities for Children

THE OLYMPIAN

South Sound children need wait no longer. Today is the day for most area Easter egg hunts.

Candy eggs, plastic eggs stuffed with prizes, and photo opportunities with the Easter bunny abound.

Here is a list of most of the Easter egg hunts and related activities planned for South Sound. They are today, unless otherwise noted.

Lacey

-10 a.m., Easter Egg Hunt at Woodland Creek Community Park, 6729 Pacific Ave. S.E. Children will be divided into ages 4 to 6, and 3 and younger. Bring your own baskets to gather candy-filled eggs. The event, hosted by Lacey Parks and Recreation, is free; photos with the Easter Bunny cost $1.50. Donations of children's books will be accepted for the Lacey Sunsetters Kiwanis annual book drive.

-11 a.m. Easter Dash, on the field outside Saint Martin's Pavilion, off Pacific Avenue. Ages 2 to 10. Sponsored by KXXO- FM 96.1. Bring a basket. Every egg is stuffed with candy or a slip redeemable for a prize. In each age group, one egg will contain a grand-prize slip for a new bike and helmet. Age groups are 2 to 3, 4 to 5, 6 to 7 and 8 to 10. Children's activities on site. Co-sponsored by Home Street Bank, Archibald Sisters, Fantastic Sams and Together! with support from Bayview and Ralph's Thriftways, Fort Lewis BOSS group, Pacific Stage & Sound and Timberline and Olympia high schools.

-Noon to 1:30 p.m., free Easter Egg Hunt at South Sound Community Church, 320 College St., for children elementary school age and younger. Eggs, prizes, puppet show, petting farm and face painting.

-Noon Sunday, Olympia Moose Lodge annual Easter Egg hunt, at Huntamer Park in Lacey, for ages 3 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 11.

Olympia

-10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Project Easter Basket will assemble Easter baskets at The United Churches, 11th Avenue and Washington Street. Baskets, books, bubbles, bunnies and basket fillings will be set up. Donations for baskets accepted. Call 360-352-8350.

-10:30 a.m. to noon, The Big Hop! at Evergreen Christian Center, 1000 Black Lake Blvd. At about 11 a.m. the Big Hop Bunny will take a giant hop from an airplane to the center's ballfield. Candy hunt for children ages 1 to 12 will start after that.

-3 p.m. Children's Fun Day and Easter Egg Hunt at New Hope Christian Fellowship, 3443 Lilly Road N.E., Olympia. Games, food and other activities. Call 360-493-0629.

-2 p.m. Sunday, Olympia Eagles F.O.E. 21 egg hunt for children up to 12 years old. Priest Point Park on East Bay Drive. There is no charge for the event.

Rochester

-11 a.m., Grand Mound Rochester Fire Department annual Easter egg hunt at Rochester High School, 19800 Carper Road. Children between 1 and 11 are welcome; all must be accompanied by a parent.

Shelton

-11 a.m., Community Kids Easter Egg Hunt, Shelton Health & Rehabilitation Center, 153 Johns Court. Children must be 10 or younger and accompanied by an adult. Bring your own basket or bag. Meet the Easter Bunny. Call 360-427-2575.

Thurston County

-1 p.m., Lattin's Country Cider Mill & Farm, 9402 Rich Road S.E., Olympia, for children 10 and younger. Pictures with the Easter Bunny; baby chicks and bunnies to see. Parking costs $2 per car. Call 360-491-7328.

Tumwater

-11 a.m., annual Community Easter Egg Hunt, Tumwater High School, 700 Israel Road S.W., ages 10 and younger. Sponsored by Tumwater American Legion Post No. 166, Tumwater Mega Foods and KGY Radio. Call 360-754-4160.
